"Nelson Mandela!"

"As far as I am concerned, God turned into good what you
meant for evil, for he brought me to this high position
I have today so that I could save the lives of many people."

Gen 50:20 TLB

My grandson, Skyler, after seeing the news flashes yesterday about the death of Nelson Mandela, asked a question, who was Nelson Mandela? My response was Nelson Mandela was the one of the greatest human beings this world has ever known. Nelson Mandela changed his nation, South Africa and the world not through force or military might but through grace, humility, and forgiveness.

Although Nelson Mandela was mistreated, falsely accused, spent a significant portion of his life in prison, he chose to forgive those that had hurt him. Nelson Mandela could have held a grudge. He could have sought revenge once he became the President of South Africa and had the power to avenge himself. But he chose to do the opposite. He chose to forgive!

Nelson Mandela life story is similar to the life story of the Biblical character named Joseph in the book of Genesis, Chapters 37-50. Joseph was also mistreated, falsely accused, spent a significant portion of his life in prison but chose to forgive those who had harmed him. Both of these great individuals have left us a lasting legacy, a perfect example and road map when you have been wronged by someone, you must FORGIVE!
